GoodMeasure has helped us gain a better understanding of what truly constitutes good practice
It was incredibly encouraging to see the return on investment, knowing that $750,000 is being reinvested into the community. That’s a significant impact. It makes you wonder, do people really understand how much we’re getting out of this when we talk to our schools and the wider local community.

We wanted to complete a GoodMeasure report to gain a robust measure that we could use to show our Whakawhiti programme in Ōtautahi, Christchurch, was making a difference, particularly around impacting attendance and improving education outcomes. We also wanted to assess the value of scaling the Whakawhiti programme so support can begin earlier in a child’s education journey, or to reach a larger population of kids and whānau. We had a really positive experience working closely with the ImpactLab team and we felt they really valued what we were trying to achieve with our programme, they weren’t just collecting data for us. It was a comfortable, safe space to share information.
It helped us to have a better understanding of what good practice is and what gets results and makes a difference. Our previous experience of data collection had largely been for external contracts for quantitative purposes, rather than qualitative ones, which gave us a good understanding of the alignment of practice, data and narrative.
We’ve put in place some changes across our organisation in how we capture narrative and data using online tools. It gave us a lot of perspective and some really good learnings. Things we’re highlighted that may not have been taken into account before. It also helped us identify that we need to start looking at post-programme data to really assess how the programme helped them later when they’re say year 12 or 13.
It’s shown us where to focus our time and energy to have the most impact. We’re much more focused on how we collect data. Another key part is it has helped us tell our story better, showing that we don’t just run a programme but there’s so much that goes on behind the scenes. The GoodMeasure report also identified we should start the programme earlier in the year which we’ve started to do this year. We’ve now redesigned the programme to run in term one, whereas previously we ran it over term three and four.

GoodMeasure helped us establish systems to effectively track our day-to-day interactions with regular programs.
GoodMeasure has helped us shift our thinking from inputs into the programme to outcomes
GoodMeasure has added a lot of confidence to what we’re doing.
The GoodMeasure process helps us meet that responsibility.
We help impact organisations know, show and grow their social impact. Let’s work together to do good, better!
